How to change a baby's diaper?
Diapering your baby may seem simple, but many new parents find it surprisingly difficult.
Miniboss has put together a step-by-step guide for you to put on diapers.
10 Steps to Changing a Diaper
Step 1: Place your baby on a flat surface.
This can be a changing table, floor, or other comfortable (and safe) surface. Lay your baby flat on the floor with legs apart. Never leave your baby unattended on a high surface, as this can cause serious injuries in the event of a fall.
Step 2: Remove all clothing from under the baby
Pull the garment back enough that it does not interfere with diaper changing. If the contents of the diaper seep into clothing, remove all clothing.
Step 3: Open and evaluate the soiled diaper
Once opened, you'll have a better idea of what you're dealing with. Be prepared for a mess and have a towel handy.
Step 4: Lift your baby's feet with one hand and wipe them with the other
Clean your baby's bottom with wipes by gently wiping from front to back. Try not to wipe more than a few times, as this can cause redness and discomfort in your baby.
That is, make sure to remove all urine and feces from the area. Any residue left behind can cause a rash or infection. It is also important that the area is dry before putting on a new diaper. If there is any remaining moisture on the skin, gently dry it with a soft cloth. If there is evidence of skin irritation, wash the area with mild soap and water and allow to air dry.
Step 5: Remove the dirty diaper from under the baby's bottom
Roll up the soiled diaper and any used wipes and put them out of your baby's reach.
Step 6: Apply a barrier or diaper cream (if needed) to clean the bottom
Zinc oxide barrier cream can protect your baby's skin from irritation. Using a clean finger or applicator, apply a thin layer to the entire diaper area. Pay close attention to areas of irritation.
Step 7: Place a clean diaper under the baby and secure the adhesive on both sides
If you are using a disposable diaper, place it so that the front is between your baby's legs and the back covers the entire bottom. Fasten the diaper with plugs on both sides.
Step 8: Dress your baby again
Once you're done changing the diaper, change your baby's clothes and get them back into a comfortable position. If there is any urine or feces on their clothes, put them in fresh clothes that you prepared before changing the diaper.
Step 9: Throw away the dirty diapers and wipes
When you're done, put the dirty diaper and used wipes in the diaper pail or trash can. You may want to place soiled diapers and wipes in a plastic bag before throwing them away.
Step 10: Wash your hands
Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after changing your child's diaper.
